Yeah wait wut? As if it’s someone’s fault that so many games are getting released. Also ending with “beware, not every customer is a die-hard fan”. Wow.
Go crack the F2P business model next, Sherlock.

Still, I think designing the game around positive things like team work and rewarding experiences is important.
I can’t see why server side solutions won’t work when implemented properly. High ping? Just provide more servers and allow players to filter that out or do that automatically.
rdri@lemmy.worldto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•'There are no plans to drop support for SteamOS': The Finals devs commit to Steam Deck and Linux players despite new kernel-level anti-cheatEnglish23·6 days agoThere is a 2-part solution:
- Build a game people enjoy playing more than winning.
- If you need an anti-cheat solution, design one on a server side.
rdri@lemmy.worldto Fuck AI@lemmy.world•I'm sure this has been posted here before, but it's too good not to repost.4·6 days agoThe author is an illustrator from what I remember. It’s a totally valid point. Automatic transmission is one thing. Wasting resources on creating an image or an essay is wasteful and everyone should realize this.
They probably mean the majority of people, not 4070 Ti owners. For them, buying that 4070 Ti would be a better choice already.

Steam is not a monopoly either, or at least it doesn’t try to become one with predatory tactics like, say, Epic.
As for defending, I know people suffer due to what people like Elon did and does. I know no person who suffers from what Gaben did or does.
It’s not Gaben simp squad story, it’s Gaben hate squad story. And I don’t see adequate reasons for that hate. Guess some people just like dividing everyone into “good peasants” and “evil multimillionaires”.
rdri@lemmy.worldto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Youtuber PewDiePie is going all in on deGoogling and the Steam Deck is one of the surprising tools that's helping him to 'escape'2·12 days agoWorse. Steam is basically built on top of CEF, which is not much better than Electron.
It’s amazing how deep Chromium (and web tech in general) got into everything. Microsoft - which I regarded for how light and well optimized Windows 8.1 was - went from using Chromium for Edge to using it basically everywhere. Latest observation is how you open Copilot app, chat a little and see how it eats 4 GB of RAM and lags like hell, on a higher end business laptop.
There is a way to “turn it off” with some search parameters. However there is no guarantee that the AI is not consuming resources at the backend.

rdri@lemmy.worldto Apple@lemmy.world•Facing Billions in DMA Fines, Apple Lets EU iPhone Users Install Apps Outside the App Store12·13 days agoThe problem is how government entities dictate media corporations what to do. This time it’s pro-consumer, the other time it might not be so.
And what happens if we don’t stop it soon? They will attack… Russia or something?
rdri@lemmy.worldto Apple@lemmy.world•Facing Billions in DMA Fines, Apple Lets EU iPhone Users Install Apps Outside the App Store38·13 days agoWith all respect for people who hate Apple (myself included), this doesn’t look like how penalties should work. I doubt there are adequate standards of how an entity like EU can request any percentage of global revenue from anyone. What would you do if you request any more than Apple considers adequate and decides it’s more profitable to just leave your market?
With all that is happening in the world, someone decides to spend time to make a meme about NATO being a bad guy?
Online function is a very broad definition. User is basically left with a crippled version of what they had. No ability to update anything or download new games. Not much different from a brick.
